The Origin

I grew up in Boston as the oldest child in a first-generation Haitian family barely clearing the poverty line. I carried a lot — the weight of the household, the pressure that comes with being the firstborn, and the kind of rage and confusion that builds when the world around you is hard and the tools to process it are limited.

In my early twenties I found Capoeira Angola. It changed everything. Not because it made me tougher — because it gave me somewhere to put what I was carrying. The ginga, the jogo, the relationship between attack and evasion that mirrors something true about how human beings navigate difficulty. For the first time I had a language for what my body was holding. The rage became something I could work with instead of something that worked against me.

That opened my world to martial arts, to holistic body movement, to the understanding that the body is not a machine to be trained but a living system that carries everything we have ever been through. From that moment I have been dedicated to helping people — at every age, every stage, every background — begin and further their journeys with their own bodies.

“Most trainers count reps. I read the body. Those are two completely different jobs.”

The Lineages

I learned Capoeira Angola under Zumbi, a practitioner formed in the lineage of Mestre Moraes and Mestre Deraldo — two of the most significant figures in the preservation and transmission of Capoeira Angola as a living African Brazilian martial art. Through Zumbi I received not just technique but tradition.

In Pencak Silat I am a student of Guru Dian Nurdini within the Panglipur school — one of the oldest and most respected Silat traditions in West Java. Through her lineage I developed the understanding of body mechanics, spatial awareness, and the relationship between force and flow that now informs every session I run — whether with a child or a senior athlete.

The Method

Capoeira Angola and Pencak Silat are three-dimensional, whole-body, breath-connected movement systems refined across generations. That body intelligence informs everything: the way I read restriction in an adult in recovery, the way I teach a child to coordinate their body for the first time, the way I build strength with a client who has never trained before.

Standard training strengthens muscles. This practice develops something deeper — an inner body awareness, whole-body integration, and the kind of functional capacity that makes every other thing the body does feel easier, more fluid, and more available.

Before You Book

Quick answers.

What is the right service for me?

If you are new, start with the free 20-minute assessment or the $40 first session. If you are coming for body repair, chronic pain, or recovery, the Movement Restoration & Assisted Stretching session is the right entry. If you want to train and get stronger, book a 1-on-1 session. If you have kids, enroll them in the Kids Martial Arts Classes. If you are not sure, book the free assessment and Dako will help you figure it out.

Is this suitable for practitioners of yoga, Pilates, or somatic movement?

Yes. Many clients come from yoga, Pilates, dance, bodywork, or somatic disciplines and find that the martial arts-based approach addresses dimensions of movement their current practice hasn’t reached. The work complements and deepens what you already do. It meets you at your level of body awareness and goes further from there.

What happens in the first session?

It starts with a brief intake — where is the body restricted, what’s the history? From there the session is fully hands-on: guided mobility work, joint mechanics, and movement restoration. The first session often surfaces patterns that have been there for years. Clients leave feeling noticeably different. No experience needed.

What about the kids classes?

Kids Martial Arts Classes run twice a week at Focus Fitness Studios in Brockton. Ages 6–16. No experience needed. The classes cover Boxing, Capoeira Angola, and Pencak Silat — all three taught by Dako with the same attention he brings to adult sessions. $100/month. Enroll via the booking link.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes. All services are available as home visits throughout Brockton and the surrounding South Shore communities. Same practitioner, same method, your own space. A small travel fee may apply beyond 20 miles. Mention it when booking and Dako will confirm availability.

I have a specific injury or medical condition. Can I still come?

Yes. Many clients come specifically because of chronic injury, post-surgical recovery, or long-term restriction. Mention your condition when booking so Dako can prepare accordingly. The work is adapted entirely to what your body can and should do on any given day. Always check with your medical provider if you have specific concerns.

The Method

Three practices.
One philosophy.

01
Train
Strength & Conditioning

ISSA-certified personal training built around the body’s actual mechanics. Strength that distributes correctly through the whole system. Martial arts-rooted conditioning that develops coordination, proprioceptive awareness, and whole-body integration alongside raw physical capacity.

02
Heal
Restoration & Repair

The body moves in three dimensions — spiraling, arching, rotating, undulating. Movement restoration works through the whole pattern: hands-on joint mobilization, assisted stretching, tissue release, and guided mobility that restores the fluid three-dimensional range the body was designed for. For recovery, rehabilitation, and deep body repair.

03
Practice
Martial Arts & Tradition

Capoeira Angola and Pencak Silat are complete movement systems — three-dimensional, breath-connected, whole-body practices refined across generations. Their body intelligence informs every session at Dako Fit, whether with a six-year-old in kids class or an adult working through years of chronic restriction.

Who This Is For

Every body is
welcome here.

Dako Fit is not a gym. It is a practice. One that meets you exactly where you are — whatever stage, whatever background, whatever your body is carrying right now.

For Families
Kids & Young Athletes

Boxing, Capoeira Angola, and Pencak Silat for ages 6–16. Kids develop real movement skills, body confidence, discipline, and coordination through traditions rooted in the African diaspora. No experience needed. A great environment, a skilled instructor, and skills they will carry for life.

For Recovery
Those Healing & Rebuilding

Chronic pain, post-injury, restricted movement that standard PT and the gym haven’t resolved. Movement restoration, assisted stretching, and hands-on body repair that reads the whole pattern — not just the symptom. Three-dimensional, breath-connected, whole-body work that goes deeper than table massage or foam rolling alone.

Recovery Services →
For Practitioners
Yoga, Pilates & Somatic Movers

You already have a body practice. Something in the work hasn’t fully resolved — a restriction that clears and returns, movement that costs more than it should. Martial arts-rooted body mechanics address dimensions of movement that table-based and mat-based practices often cannot reach. This work complements and deepens what you already do.

For Performance
Athletes & Serious Trainers

Strength that integrates through the body rather than isolating it. ISSA-certified personal training built around your body’s actual mechanics, your sport, and your goals. Conditioning that builds without breaking down. The martial arts foundation means the training develops coordination, spatial awareness, and functional capacity alongside raw strength.

Personal Training →
For Beginners
No Experience Needed

The work meets you where you are. Whether you have never trained a day in your life or you have been in gyms for years but something still feels off — the first session starts with where your body actually is, not where a program assumes it should be. Start with a single session at $40 and find out.
